The general consensus is Daniel Day-Lewis, and Meryl Streep (for fair representation) are industry standard. They are the respective ‘Rodin’s’ of the modern thespian arts. I believe I watched through DDL’s entire body of work- while only seeing maybe 6 or 7 Streep films. The oldest being ‘Death Becomes Her’; she works along side both Goldie Hawn, And Bruce Willis. This was my introduction to her work, and I thought she was fine. Just fine. I mean, the film was great as far as the early 90’s dark comedy genre goes. She was in vogue- during Americas’ grunge rage, and punk rock/ Emo vibes everywhere- at the time, ‘Death Becomes Her’ was competing with films like ‘Edward Scissorhand’s & The Adams Family.’ So, Hollywood was cashing in on the pre-teen and younger generations momentary obsession with darkness. Everyone was into these themes, I mean Marilyn Manson had kids cutting themselves in the school locker rooms; In the midst of all of that, my 9 year old self caught my first glimpse of a ‘Streep’ performance. Looking back, I do not hold anything against her. However, moving forward through her catalogue, she (Streep) seems to be consistently underwhelming. She is almost always in great titles, with a stellar supporting cast, notable directors and adequate budgets… I just think she is a good actress, not much more than that. Her educational prowess could have lent itself to her ‘whispered majesty’ with an impressive BA from Vassar, and MFA from Yale. BRAVA!! Orrr, It could be all the pop culture references, “I’m Going to Meryl Streep the fuck out of this” -Miri, (Elizabeth Banks Character) in ‘Zack and Miri Make a Prono’ being one of the more prominent mentions. I mean, I want to say that during the 1977-1990’s Dawn of the Modern Film Era, and the birth of the SUPER FILMS and Blockbusters like; Star Wars, Indiana Jones, E.T, the Godfathers- We started to create the groundwork for the next, modern era of film. We started to see talent rising, without the traditional '“movie star” Look. We started to see the new masters develop.b People began to seriously surrender to their craft. Along with that, we got to see great innovations in the area of special effects, with films like Jurassic Park leading into ground-breakers like The Matrix 6 years later. I share all that to say that Meryl is part of this ERA. I would like to suggest a couple of minor edits. I would like to say, I personally find Francis Mcdormand, to be a more pure talent. I am sorry. I have seen great range, with performances from Charlise Theron in Monster, or Great cinematic moments like Natalie Portman realizing she was not really about to die in V for Vandetta- (The hair shaved, standing in the rain, cursing the stars and crying) if you are not familiar. She was #POWER in that moment. Frances McDormand is who everyone swears Streep is. I have one last addition. I know DDL is INSANELY gifted. He is now retired and I feel three real powerhouses can capture that clout. Shia Labeouf , Joaquin Phoenix, and (Drum Roll Please) CALEB LANDRY JONES!! All of this nonsense, was to build a little familiarity with the audience (I do not have lol) to say, I think CALEB LANDRY JONES, may be pound for pound be the absolute best actor in the game right now. Look at his movies, and roles he plays. He is young and a slave to his craft- I know there are still juggernauts out there like Sean Penn- and Christian Bale- I know, and I feel bad even saying it- On some level. My money on the most consequential performances to lead the next era of film, (which I believe just started)- Will come from CLJ- Mark my words… Thanks for listening. #buybitcoin
